A graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Juan Carlos Baez has been exhibiting in various parts of the United States, Puerto Rico, and other parts of the world. His fine art work deals with the surreal, the spiritual and the scientific, mixed with elements of science fiction and pop culture, and combined with an interest in exploring cultural identity and social issues. He applies some of those qualities to his illustration and comics' work as well.
J.C. Baez has collaborated with various publishers, authors and other artists on illustration projects worldwide, that include album and book covers, posters, concept art and storyboards. Some of his clients include Jon Anderson of Yes, Star Trek's Walter Koenig, the band Showpony, musician Kevin Max, and others. He is currently creating storyboards for Neil Gaiman's Anansi Boys mini-series for Amazon Prime.
Baez has illustrated comic books and graphic novels, often adding an element of fine art and surrealism to the books he creates. Some of those include, Walter Koenig's Things To Come, Jon Anderson's Violin Stories, Akala's Visions Part One, the Star Trek Renegades Webcomic, Paul: A Graphic Novel and Kevin Max's Fiefdom of Angels.
